Cycling tracks
In the past there were 2 velodromes in Leopoldsburg. I received the information on this page from Jean-Pierre CHANOINE, for which I thank him. The information was extracted from the thesis of Bert MOEYART. The full thesis can be found here.
Track from 1910-1921
A. Location : Stationsstraat
B. Years of competition :1913-1914, 1919-1921 [233]
C. Tech. data : Wooden track
Details: Both cycling tracks of Leopoldsburg turned good because there were always soldiers from all over the country as an audience. Even the best riders came to Leopoldsburg because they always had a soldier from their own region as a supporter. [234]
Track from the years 1920-1930
A. Location: At the ‘Quatre Bras’ in the hamlet of ‘Het Geleeg’
B. Years of competition:1922-1926, 1928-1935, 1937 [235]
C. Tech. data : 250 meter long / concrete
D. Details: This cycle track replaced the previous and was slightly further from the center. The cycling track was under the direction of Jef Hulsmans. In 1924 all the wood of the cycling track had already been stoked [236]
In the years 1924 to before WW II, there was also a velodrome on the Geleeg. Today, it is still remembered by the Wielerbaanstraat.
